Dear Sir:
I want to commend Pastor Tripke, for the article that was in the Daily Courier concerning what is wrong with the Harry Potter series of books on Witchcraft.
His answer to the person that doesn't see anything wrong with them was very tactful. Both of his articles were in good taste and if taken correctly, could be a source of help.
The article, "Witches and the good old days" by N. Barker of Winfield shows that the writer does not understand how the little foxes are the ones that spoils the vine.
We are instructed several times in the Bible to "train up our children in the way that they should go and when they are old, they will not depart from it." We do want our children to read, to play games and a thousand other things, but we do want their activity to be for their present and future good. We do not want their mind corrupted with witchcraft, killing games, fighting, homosexuality or any other harmful ideas put in their minds that will cause them pain later on in life.
Just a couple days ago, a young man killed some people. What the investigators found was his life style of playing killing games. We have heard of hundreds of events that have been prompted by what a person did while they were a child. Cruelty to animals and people are some of the result of practicing witchcraft.
You may think that, a child just reading Harry Potter books is innocent. You should hear some of the ideas that the children that have read them have come up with. Kid's wanting to become a real witch so they can sacrifice someone, cast a spell on their class mates so they can get their way, and boil some frogs and animals and make witches brew to aid them in their mischievous deeds. The list goes on and on.
We must understand that a person does not always get addicted to cigarettes or alcohol or become a homosexual, the first time they try, but the seed is planted. That is why we must be so very careful what we hear, read, or do. Association with the wrong people is one of the prime causes of trouble. Like cigarettes and alcohol, all readers of the Harry Potters books will not become witches, but the seeds are planted. They will believe like so many people, there is nothing wrong with smoking, drinking alcoholic beverages, homosexuality, sex out side of the marriage, lying, cheating, and even witchcraft.
The Bible instructs us, "I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes." It goes on to say, "I hate the works of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me."
There is plenty of good things to do without doing that which God considers to be evil!
Pastor Franklin D. Simmons
